Badley celebrations and Sam Banks Pavilion opening

At the end of September the school community participated in activities to celebrate our founder’s ethos, working on projects across the estate in support of the school motto, ‘Work of Each for Weal of All’. The overall theme was the appreciation of nature, with activities ranging from foraging and bush-craft to falconry and poetry inspired by the outdoors. Other activities included tapestry weaving, lantern making and mural painting. The Whole School Effort transformed the area behind Steephurst, through the planting of an orchard of cherry trees. To mark the official opening of the Sam Banks Pavilion, Louise Banks and Keith Budge mounted an engraved school cricket bat on the wall of the pavilion whilst Graham Banks declared the building officially open. Block 5s raise £3,000 for four charities

Last January Block 4 undertook to raise £3,000 to be divided between four local charities. It took them a year to do it – and they are now Block 5 – but, after running a talent show, selling advertising space in a brochure about the project, washing cars, selling ice cream and finally Alex Yetman’s fashion show, the money was raised. In the closing weeks of last term representatives of the four charities, Canine Partners, Enable Ability, The Elizabeth Foundation and The Sussex Snowdrop Trust attended Block 5 assemblies to receive their cheques for £750 each. The charities were all hugely impressed that one year group had achieved so much for them and their representatives spoke movingly about how this effort would make a real difference to local people facing challenging circumstances.
