The roof of the Sam Banks Pavilion has now been raised and OBs John Russell and Gabriel Langlands spent last week laying the wooden tiles made out of Canadian Red Cedar (with a little bit of help from students and Sam’s older brother Joe). The tiles, known as ‘shingles’, are very robust, hard-wearing and an excellent material for this type of construction. When first laid, the shingles will have a red and brown hue, which will start to grey over time like the colour of the Orchard building.
