Before half term the Green Team organised a Green Week to raise awareness on how we can individually reduce energy usage and prevent unnecessary wastage. We ran a bake sale in the Quad, raising £111 with which we will buy some paper brick makers to recycle as much of the school’s paper as possible, and anything else which may have a long term beneficial use for the school. Our other main push for the week was to make people aware of their food usage. On Monday, following the food symposium on meat and the detrimental effects its production has on our climate, we trialled a meat free lunch and will look at the possibility of having meat free meals in the future. On Wednesday we placed clear waste boxes in the dining hall so that people could see how much they had thrown away. We’ve still got lots to work on, but the week was a really good way to get people involved in thinking actively about the issues that we face today regarding waste. Read more.
